W.M. Keck Early Learning Center (Keck ELC)
School Calendars for the Keck Center:
The W.M. Keck Early Learning Center (Keck ELC) first opened in August of 2005 to provide high quality, accessible and affordable early childhood development and education, supporting Pre-Kindergarten-age children and their families. Beginning in the fall of 2013, we will also offer a new Transitional Kindergarten program.
The vision of the W.M. Keck Early Learning Center is to promote the value of every child and to actively promote a community where families and children have optimal opportunities to learn, develop and share those skills, attitudes and attributes that help assure lifelong learning, wellness, independence and personal success. We predict that this quality early learning experience, coupled with strong teachers and families will lead to future success in rigorous middle and high schools, as children work toward attending the university of their choice.
Keck ELC uses district-approved curriculum to prepare children for Kindergarten, based on the work of child development experts including Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Erik Erikson, Howard Gardner and Lilian Katz. As a result, the program enables children to develop their self-identity and independence, build physical strength, motor skills and coordination, and establish a foundation for health, wellness and safety.
Students learn to express emotions and ideas constructively through arts and language. They also learn to appreciate and understand diversity in both the classroom and community, while developing the invaluable qualities of intellectual curiosity and the desire to achieve.
