After School Programs

Application forms for students enrolling in all after school programs can be picked up from the main office at each school.

Accelerated Charter Elementary School (ACES) & ASES

ACES offers an After School Education & Safety program (ASES) for K-6 grade students from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Friday. This program supports students with homework assistance and activities to complement the schools’ academic program. Various activities include art, science, dance and music enrichment. The ASES program offers extended learning opportunities and collaborates with local community-based organizations. ACES students work with college students from the USC Viteri School of Engineering on collaborative real-world projects such as the American Heart Association’s Lorax Teaching Gardens and Kids Cook with Heart. Throughout the Kids Cook with Heart program students receive 10 weeks of hands-on classes with a professional chef. They will learn why eating healthy is important, and will learn fun ways to make healthy food taste great!

The Accelerated School & LA’s Best (grades K-6)

In February of 2007, The Accelerated School entered into a partnership with the LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program to provide its K-6 students with a safe and engaging place to be from dismissal to 6 p.m. everyday—all at no cost to parents.

Along with a nutritious snack and homework assistance, all students are provided with the opportunity to develop skills and discover talents in many areas, including dance, performing and visual arts, music, photography, computers, seasonal sports, nutrition and fitness, science, gardening, conflict resolution, cultural studies, cooking, math and literacy.

LA’s BEST students are also provided the opportunity to represent their school on field trips, at health and fitness fairs, sports, dance and science competitions, and in art and writing contests.

All students that attend The Accelerated School are eligible to be a part of this free program. LA’s BEST is a non-profit organization and its success depends on the support of parents.

The Accelerated School & YPI (grades 6-8)

Youth Policy Institute’s (YPI) program goal is to support student success through after school activities throughout each year and during intersession breaks. YPI works in partnership with TAS to provide free tutoring & homework assistance and a variety of clubs for our middle school students. In addition, YPI provides a nutritious snack for each participating student. Clubs vary from year to year and are determined by current student interest and advisor availability. Clubs offered for middle school in the fall of 2013 include Arts & Crafts, Soccer, “The Network,” and Yearbook. Past clubs include archery, cooking, dance, cheer, drama, newspaper, reading, chess, gaming clubs, and skateboarding. Every effort is made each year to ensure that students have access to enrichment clubs to suit their academic and social growth. Students who are interested in starting a new club should see the YPI Site Coordinator or the Principal. For more information on the YPI Middle School After School Program at TAS please call Oscar Magana at 213-271-4139.

Wallis Annenberg High School & YPI (grades 9-12)
